Watcher Doings 36
“I’m fae, but I’m no Faery Queen!” roared Jimann.
“Sometimes you are,” said Montay and Ferah in unison catching each other’s eye and giggling nervously as they spoke again in unison, “and we really don’t mind when you swing both ways!”
“I’m not familiar with the ballad of Tam Lin,” grumbled Jimann, ignoring the two, and squaring his shoulders he added, “I’ve never been much of a fan of ballads or…ugh…poetry.”
“To put it simply, because Montay is a shapeshifter, Ferah has to hold onto her brother until, let’s say midnight of this Halloween night full moon, while he shifts through his different forms; if she can hold him until then, she gets to keep him and you go far, far away.”
“And if I win?
“If she releases him at any time before midnight, you win and he’s all yours.”

“Not good enough—it’s her I want,” snapped Jimann.
“You know I’ll drive you nuts because I say no all the time,” Ferah said. “…but fine, have it your way: deal!”
Jimann shoved Montay to the ground next to his sister, smiling a broad, cruel smile, and said coldly, “I like a challenge almost as much as I like to see you suffer.”
Ferah caught and gathered her brother into her arms to swing him away from the towering Jimann.
“Remember,” whimpered Montay, “you promised to let never let me go, ever again.”
“I didn’t exactly promise,” she whispered into his hair, “but I have to do this for everybody, anyway…so sure.”
