Wreaths of coffee aroma played about her smile, tightening the contour of curls that framed the family countenance passed down from generation to generation.
No matter what continent that family resemblance landed on, the inherited ability to see and draw the uncanny followed, in midnight blue eyes, high cheekbones and a heart-shaped face, teeth a little too sharp for most humans’ comfort.
Shadowed, she stood inside the cabin, a cool morning breeze blowing through the screen door, and watched the little man until the dense ferns just beyond the gravel lot ceased twitching. Best not to frighten him too early (there would be time for that later); it was enough that he’d taken the bait, the wedges of oranges that both their kind adored.
Laughing softly as the screen door’s spring screeched, she pushed through and padded barefoot across the cold, flat-gray painted cement floor toward the porch couch where her book lay waiting to be taken up again.
Coffee burned her lips in wicked delight as she sipped without cooling it, and she let the door swing free and snap shut with a gunshot bang; beyond, the ferns shivered, then froze.

And the plot thickens! Cue ominous music with that soft laugh (even at the risk of making it scarier than it already is).

Time will/may reveal all?

Hmm, ‘teeth a little too sharp’ – I also think it must be at least one vampire in the mix. Maybe I’m right? Do tell me next week…

Oh yes, I’m also a pantser through and through, although I call myself a ‘braccaneer’.😉

Now- I went back and reread what you posted last week and I think I have myself confused- last week i thought he was a gnome- and this week he sounds more like a vampire- am I even warm?

He’s a gnome, hiding in the ferns (read part 1?). She’s…somethin’ else! May our next SSS prompt lend a clue or two. ;-)
