Plangeduc grabbed the cellphone out of his pocket and pattered down the stairs to the lake and the end of the dock where the signal was strongest for videocalling.

Elinorth picked up after the fifth ring—it was the middle of the night, afterall—and sat up in bed, hair a wild mess; behind her, a younger not-fully-bearded gnome groaned and switched on the light on the tree stump night table, then rolled over and recommenced snoring.

Jimann, having chosen a size and visage meant to both terrify and nauseate, grabbed Montay by his opposite wrist and sneered at Ferah, “Either you come with me now and endorse me as Supreme Emperor of the Council of Peace Keepers, as well as the Brotherhood of Gnomes, or I crush what’s left of your foolish brother under my diamond hoof and finish up by murdering the rest of your friends here!”

Watcher Doings Extra: Ferah

“Sittin’ on the dock of the bay, watchin’ the tide roll away…”

God knows she’d spent plenty of time staring out at the waves, the gulls bobbing like whitecaps let loose when the winds picked up on gray afternoons. When cold rain dimpled those same white-capped waves on stormy days, she’d stand in the treasures she’d found in the shed, the fisherman’s long jacket flapping around her long legs, a sou’wester tied under her chin, her feet bare and near frozen, but turned northward. The scene was different than what her deep-forested homeland offered up, and sometimes she thought she’d grown up in the wrong place, wrong time.

Ferah found that she was decidedly disinterested in the wiles of diplomacy which her elder brother, Montay wore—as the humans would say–like a second skin; she had happily begun plans to distance herself from the whole business and focus on what she preferred: boots-on-the ground activism, exploring all the different people and cultures that made up the continental fae folk, inserting herself in the daily activities of the human world.
