As instructed, she added the green powder to the roiling mass of liquid, then followed up with a palmful of iridescent capsules the size of her pinky nail.
Standing on tiptoes, the maiden reached above once again for the dusty box of dried fungus, carefully blowing detritus off the lid before opening it and wondering how it could get so dusty so quickly. Shrugging, she grabbed a pinch and crumpled it into the pot, while chanting

She stirred vigorously with the blackened cherrywood paddle, slapping down the desperate, writhing reach of tentacles, and received a smack upside the back of her head for her efforts.
“Stupid girl, yer not meant to kill the wee slikket beastie,” roared the sorceress, hissing “If ye want to capture the prince, ye’ll not make yer familiar wince!”
