The polished gemstone was arranged
To stand atop the sheet of foil
To yield clarity,
All his best lights gleaming.
Solid, dependable, she enhanced every facet
And all accepted it was only him;
She was a good wife.
Yet someone noticed, and opened a window.
Eventually, when others lifted the gem,
Gloved hands assessing his true worth alone,
A caressing wind gusted,
Cupping her brittle edges and away she flew,
Out the window, burden lifted,
She was free.
The gemstone still gleamed,
But did anyone notice her absence once she’d gone?
Or was she easily replaced?

***(Came across the gemology meaning and practice of placing a thin sheet of material under a gemstone to increase brilliance and color. Wow.)
The challenge? Write a story in exactly 6 sentences based on Denise’s one word prompt: FOIL. Visit, comment, and write & perhaps post your own on SIX SENTENCE STORIES. The Café is open. Come as you are!

Very nicely done. I hope freedom served her well, and as for whether she was replaced, so what? At least she doesn’t have to be there.

Exactly! A no-growth situation to stay where she was.

A multi-faceted tale, this. There’s those fine six lines, and then the intriguing ones read between and betwixt.

Thanks, Deanna! And all because of a lesser-known definition of the prompt word! Thanks to Denise!

Enjoyable “flight of fancy”, Liz.
(that is pretty cool – the method to increase a gemstone’s brilliance and color)

I wonder who opened the window and what she will now do being free. Interesting question at the end about whether she could be easily replaced or not.
