Zuzu’s Petals

Grafitti

Hanna skedaddles

Hannah couldn’t stand it any longer: so many sad faces, mouths turned down with refusal after refusal, so bad that no one dared a joyful and barbaric “Yawp!” a la Whitman, or even a comic, life-saving “Yopp!” as Horton had heard it.

Consequences be damned, the weekend was upon us and she needed to shake things up. She spray-painted that word, in all its forms, surrounding it with flowers and mythic beasts. It covered the north wall of the Federal Savings and Loan, even blocking out nasty Mr. Potter’s bank window.

Her Great Grampa George Bailey would’ve been proud.
