Power Napping

The challenge? Write a story in exactly 6 sentences based on Denise’s one word prompt: POWER. Visit, comment, and write & post your own on Six Sentence Stories 

“Name your price, for I must repay you for what you’ve done for our family,” the queen whispered, and wrung her hands, already anticipating the next challenge with her errant boy.

Magda peered sharply at the woman, then chuckled throatily, hacked, and spit into the wiry brush of the untended garden behind the palace. “No need, but for this:  freely accept the gift you’ve been given – the Universe often feels random and sparse in her bestowals – and hold it close within your soul, letting it heal and restore the power of your own deeply creative and kind well. And then when you’ve absorbed all, pay it forward.”

“After all,” she continued, fading into the deepening shadows, “I have children aplenty of my own who will need your blessing.”

The queen dropped to her knees, hands cradling her head and eyes, then tipped and slept, awakening three days later renewed, hopeful, and ready.

  4. ah the catch! Paying forward is such a ‘harder than it sounds’ concept.

    The degree of unselfishness required by this simple act is lacking in far too large a percentage of the population*

    *real and imagined.
