The challenge? Write a story in 6 sentences, no more & no less, and if you’d like, share your own creation or just visit and comment on others’ ideas, with GirlieOnTheEdge, Denise. The prompt is “CUP”, and here’s where you join the party: Six Sentence Stories

***(For those of us riding out the heat wave)***

She’d stepped outside the cabin door to get a breath of fresh air, happy for the puff parka and shearling-lined boots, but wishing she’d worn her ski pants and heavy choppers as well; the bench iced her bum and her fingertips stung.

How long could she stay out here, and how long could he stay mad, and what was he so torqued out about anyway?

The winter night came on hard and fast, the moon sharp, silver, and merciless on her numb fingers. His mood swings were not her fault, and she’d wanted to know how close quarters with him would feel, so gratitude for information freely given was surely warranted; her jacket crackled as she tucked her arms around her belly in a comforting embrace.

A snap and scrape of the door beside her, a puff of warm air and golden light, and a steaming cup was offered as he sat down beside her.

Wrapping her fingers around its fragrant warmth, she caught his anxious glance and decided: friends, then, but not roommates.

  2. I’m with the others, your Six is a sensory feast (OK, the section of the buffet devoted to ice cream and other frozen desserts).
Even more impressive is how engaging the story. Every good Six grabs the Reader from the opening words.

  3. Indirectly pointing towards the inner feelings of your protagonist by describing the effect cold has on her or her clothes is perfect, Liz.
    Intense yet subtle ambience.
