The challenge? Write a story in 6 sentences, no more & no less, and if you’d like, share your creation or just visit and comment on others’ ideas, with GirlieOnTheEdge, Denise. The prompt is “MARK”, and here’s where you join the party: Six Sentence Stories
Once, long ago in the Beforetimes, before people were a thing,
Before shields and swords and maidens and hordes of gold and jewels created conquering kingdoms,
Before dragons ruled the land,
A mountain rose out of steaming seas, from ribbons of liquid fire, piling itself upon itself.
In the Beforetimes, a shooting star flashed meteor-bright and buried itself in the mountain’s top, and
Another belch of the planet’s fire sealed the star in tight darkness,
While inside the fulgent embrace of light and dark
Dreamt of being, both within and without.
(Its landing left no discernible mark for those of us in the Aftertimes,
And we have to take it on faith and feeling that all this was true.)
There have always been wind and water and earth and air,
Though the balance of each fluctuated, further effluence of spirit
Wore the mountains down here, and put it over there,
And over there, and there, as well.
The mark and the star were polished and tumbled and scattered
Around the whole of the planet,
Until another form of life grew out of the seas and over the land,
Sprouting legs and wings and undulating exoskeleton to scatter its issue further still;
Now, in the time after the Aftertimes,
No one here is certain how much star stuff remains, or if it multiplies, or
Gathers in roots and only bursts to bloom in the original apple tree.
So you see, my darlings, we must assume this:
We are stardust, we are golden,
And we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.

This is pure “wonder”! Your writing style is so lovely, elegant, lyrical–and I love the song references (I actually remember “bits and pieces” of them, though not always the artists–oh, that’s a Dave Clark Five reference, if you didn’t catch it, haha!). Blessings to you!!

Your descriptions… bordering on the tangible, even as they prompt visuals in the Reader.
The narrative, intertwining the imagery, somehow becomes even stronger.

Creation tale spun in gossomer. Very nice, Liz 🙂
And fair warning as well, to all who come after the Aftertimes, so it is in the beginning, so shall it be. If, that is, we’re not mindful to take better care. Of everything.

Oh I rolled along with it all and loved so many lines, and smiled wide at hose last two. A fine Six and a fine homage to Joni. You hit the mark.

I have noticed this as a trend with you lately. (Love it. That’s a smile not a Grimm-ace.)
