The challenge? Write a story in 6 sentences, no more & no less, and if you’d like, share your creation or just visit and comment on others’ ideas, with GirlieOnTheEdge, Denise. The prompt is “Marvel”, and here’s where you join the party: Six Sentence Stories
Superhero Stuff
Most superheroes start out simply.
A being of humble origin but fatally flawed,
is robbed of a birthright,
ejected from a home planet,
or altered by science gone wrong.
Required to redeem themselves
for the rest of their unnatural lives,
they struggle with their shadow side,
as we breathe deep and lay our money down.
Viewers of movies and readers of graphic novels,
we are drawn in for hour after hour
by their same-not-same
their us-not-us.
Enthralled by the struggle,
we are distracted by the shadow dance
of villains and heroes flickering light and dark on a screen
our eyes grown large and shoes crackling on a sticky theater floor.
Leaving us quite free to ignore our own shadow selves,
we escape personal accountability.

Ha! I love it. Fantastic take on “Marvel”. And you’ve got those superheroes down well. (Love the “fatally flawed” bit.) 🙂 Well done!

From the looks of the comments above, I’m not the only one fascinated by the final lines of your Six. Mirror or telescope?
Good Six

A bir of both, I guess.
In the words of The Monkees
“It’s a little bit me
And a little bit you…too.”
Try it on and if it fits…then there we are. 🙃🙂😉

Excellent observation of the superhero genre with ‘us’ as the viewer/reader of all their conflicts both inner and outer. Love the line: “Our eyes grown large and shoes crackling on a sticky theater floor.”

I feel as though we are all being “altered by science gone wrong” with this crazy pandemic going on! Good six, thought provoking. nice.

Thanks, let’s hope that, at the end of the day, it’s all for good and not evil.

The great escape into the dark theater to “escape personal accountability” and “ignoring our shadow selves” by watching the invents in the lives of super heroes is an interesting way to think about it. Great SSS.
