Early September AM
I yawn and stretch, displacing the kitty wedged against my hip;
He’s clever enough to patiently pad a circle as I settle,
Draping himself over the valley of my belly when I finally lie on my side.
I’d left the shades open
When the first wave of rain blew through,
Reconsidering that the open window would fail to balance the lingering humidity.
I long for the freedom of cooler air, a lower dewpoint.
I yawn and stretch, displacing the kitty wedged against my hip;
He’s clever enough to patiently pad a circle as I settle,
Draping himself over the valley of my belly when I finally lie on my side.
We’re poised on the cusp of Autumn:
The bright patchwork of brilliant colors,
Cool nights lingering in the sharp scent of fallen leaves
Crackling under boots laced up over slender wool socks,
Pumpkin spice coffee made the right way
At non-commercial local coffee shops
(a minimum of sugar and sweet-steamed milk
Potent enough to carry us through the shortening days).
It’s not here yet,
But the richness of the later sunrise light reassures.
So what’s the rush to rise when kitty purrs patience?

Ah, to linger over the morning. Maybe someday I can, when I retire.

It’s great, Mimi. And we have both cookies and kitties here on the Dark side. 😽

admittedly engaging (and, in fact, quite seductive… seasons-of-the-year-istically-speaking, of course) but I gotta take a miss… gimme Spring (or better) Summer!

There are things to love about every season. Celebrate to your own taste, yah? 🙂

Autumn/Fall my absolute favourite time of year. “Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness “.

This is so beautifully worded. And I felt myself sinking into the purrs of a cat while laying in bed and longing for the night so it would be a bit cooler. Beautiful!

I really must try this pumpkin spice coffee once. Maybe on Mabon.

Go locally produced, rather than big corporate. Like a fancy-yet-restrained gourmet coffee!

Oh, that was really lovely! You, your kitty and the wonderful early autumn. That’s fab, and coffee and all those trimmings, yum. 🍂

Sometimes patience is better than rushing.

Liz, I absolutely like how you captured the early start of the autumn season. Falling leaves, brilliant colors, and crackling sounds when we walk over them… you’ve captured them perfectly. ☺️👍
