She slept in the closet, because the bedroom was full.
Not that the bedroom was especially large, or that she closeted her habits in shame. She was, in fact, quite proud of the woman she was, of an obsession that exceeded her financial means. The closet was just large enough to fit a toddler’s mattress, which was fine because she was petite. Not pretty petite, but small in stature. And because she was not particularly good looking by usual standards, she had decided from a young age on being striking.
One wall of the bedroom was covered by three panes of full-length mirror, sized to allow natural morning light to pour through the clerestory windows. The other walls were lined with dressers, shelves, and hanging closets of carefully-chosen blouses, skirts, trousers, midi-length dresses, skinny leggings of every imagined color and pattern, and long flowing gowns both form-fitting and fairy-tale flirty. There was even a small selection of bustiers and shawls, and an impressive display of boots both stiletto and clunky, and strappy high-heeled sandals, although she had a decided preference for the silver gladiator sandals.
She wished to be seen.
The question for today was which personality to choose for the day, and how to dress for her. The world was her oyster, and pearl that she was, she could be anything and anyone she wanted: Celebrate her Self!
