A Crone’s Cup of Stars

Autumnal Days settling in to cool

Assets and payments all coming due

Black coffee burns and bites

As I ponder the breadth of lifetime delights… 

 

Leaves scatter and slide ‘tween blades of grass:

They need a trim, tho’ a pain in the ass.

Skies oppressive gray, last tomatoes on the vine:

They’re mine, Sugarlips. All mine.

 

Financial planners wait on papers, health insurers, too.

A waterfall of wellness around which I must make do.

Vaccines, mammo, teeth and eyes

Is knowing all these data points really, truly wise?

 

Stop-gap celebration

Moonlit hikes and cerebration

Sourdough bread and crispy waffles

This respectable bourbon? Defs not awful.

 

A careful balance, and freedom’s won

My True Desire when all’s said and done?

A little less planning and a lot more fun.

I want my cup of stars.
