They call to me, with voices of many genres, their due dates adding an extra whine to their plea. They wobble and sway in the winds of indecision of who to choose first. I can’t recall how many times of renewal I’ve invoked for each one. My chipped memory of delayed holds soon-to-be-released clinks against the ruined sides of a bottomless well of library requests.

I could pick up the pace, pack my portfolio with poor-to-middling products. But I’m feeling peckish, so will instead toast some bread and fill its pocks with creamy butter. Delay the puck of promise, a hockey shot to the gut that reminds me: I swore to write every day this month on these prompted challenges.

Thus reminded, I brew me more Joe, grab the blanket, and here I go…

Joy in a Cold Snap: SoCSaturday

Woke up to subzero temps this morning, grateful that there is nothing…NOTHING…that requires me to go outside the house today. Yesterday, I returned overdue library books (a gothic horror novel by Elizabeth Hand, and a thick collection of Pablo Neruda poems), picked up a few grocery necessities, and got that teaspoon-sized dose of human interaction that’ll do me for about a week.
