Plangeduc grabbed the cellphone out of his pocket and pattered down the stairs to the lake and the end of the dock where the signal was strongest for videocalling.

Elinorth picked up after the fifth ring—it was the middle of the night, afterall—and sat up in bed, hair a wild mess; behind her, a younger not-fully-bearded gnome groaned and switched on the light on the tree stump night table, then rolled over and recommenced snoring.

The Lady turned her cool copper-green eyes to Ferah, and her brother, Montay, awkwardly struggling to stand upright without his sister’s aid; both were a little burnt and steaming from their deadly challenge with Jimann. “I’ll take a raincheck on the Tater Tot Hotdish, as good at it sounds, but these clementines…” she crooned as she picked one out of the bag that Fernlodth had dropped in his haste, “…are perfect for a late-night snack!”

Lady Lake continued to rotate her upraised hand clockwise to gather, and the moonlit sky both darkened and lightened as seagulls came from all directions from their nighttime roosting spots, hovering and circling overhead, as she suggested gently to the crew of gnomes and shapeshifters, “You might want to step closer inside the protective circle, because things are about to get even more real.

Watcher Doings Extra: Ferah

“Sittin’ on the dock of the bay, watchin’ the tide roll away…”

God knows she’d spent plenty of time staring out at the waves, the gulls bobbing like whitecaps let loose when the winds picked up on gray afternoons. When cold rain dimpled those same white-capped waves on stormy days, she’d stand in the treasures she’d found in the shed, the fisherman’s long jacket flapping around her long legs, a sou’wester tied under her chin, her feet bare and near frozen, but turned northward. The scene was different than what her deep-forested homeland offered up, and sometimes she thought she’d grown up in the wrong place, wrong time.

“Umm, Ferah…you’ve been a wonderful hostess and all,” mumbled Rockmouse, tugging gently on the hem of the cat woman’s shirt after following her into the kitchen. “And we appreciate the clementines you’ve been supplying us—we don’t get much access in our homeland—but my tummy is beginning to feel a little acid, and too much gives Fernlodth gastric distress.”

The plan was simple, too simple for Rockmouse’s taste; who has a naming day at 173 years, even though shapechangers are reputed to be the more long-lived of the fae?

“As long as Jimann doesn’t show up—we hear that Montay put him in charge of the Council of Peacekeepers since he left to track you down—we should have this covered,” said Ferah, and leaning back in her chair, shook out her shoulders with something that sounded very much like bird of prey wings opening for the sky.
