The fridge breathes deep, mostly emptied of odds and ends ready for renewal in a whirl of call and response with the cook. An oversized Dutch Oven dozes on the right front burner, still-winter sun sliding behind the trees. Continue reading

Embrace the Morning
Every morning’s a wakeup call
My wakeup call to get busy and go
Bust out the coffee, bounce off the walls
Right now I’m having a wakeup call
And I do wake up, but I cannot go
Cat’s trapped me beneath, though my hunger grows
Even so, can’t push him off: the kitty purrs No.

(A dream, because I need peace and a bit of distance today.)
The morning started well enough, cool with birdsong, cat heavier than the wool blanket that marks this transition into true Autumn. Side sleeper me, Rollo’s wedged his backside against my belly, so committed to morning dreams, he doesn’t waken immediately, even when I roll onto my back. No purring yet. That’s fine. Felix watched his mistress from the warmth and safety of the window, as snow blew off in dense clouds and clumps, off the three story apartment’s roof and twirling in the pre-dawn sky. Continue reading
