Like most of the girls that found their way to Lula’s Saloon, Tucker found a way to fit in, using her own special gifts and learning other invaluable skills. All accepted Lula’s rules of community, or moved on.

I winced as Hjordis raked the carding paddles, one against the other, demolishing yet another ball of wool, fibers snapping and tangling in self-defense against her rough hands. At this rate, the worked wool would be too hard and lumpy to be used for much of anything; her pile of discards was growing exponentially.

He’d become withdrawn since the incident, built a wall, not too fierce, not too tall, but imposing enough to keep most others out. And with Leon the Chameleon guarding the door, he was able to continue life as he now knew it.

Little Red Tatterhood

Perhaps Rose could have been more wary on her weekly walk to Granny’s apartment, but she knew the way and felt confident in her red cape and hood. How could she go wrong? It had plenty of pockets! And she had her wooden spoon to fend off any attackers.      Continue reading →
