Eyes closed, she tips her chin upward to catch the sun’s soothing caress; this-get-away-from-cruel-winter vacation had been a long time coming, precious personal leave hours hoarded and approved by her boss long in advance.
She sighs, reaches for the tall, cool drink, expertly pushing the umbrella aside with the tip of her nose and wrapping her lips around the slender straw that unites Tequila, Triple Sec, Blue Curacao, and a splash of lime with a parched tongue. Having lived this sip so many times in her dreams, her hand goes straight to the glass without looking, without spilling…except for a single drip of condensation that freefalls to her naked chest and rolls down her belly to pool in her navel where sweat and coconut oil have already gathered.
Except for the chirrup as her cat pounces on her belly and begins to knead the wool blanket she’s thrown over her entire body because despite her plans, the flight was canceled due to a January blizzard.
Opening her eyes, she mutters, “Crap!” at the driving, piling snow outside her picture window, the frost gathering in the corners of the pane.
She rolls, resolute, toppling the cat, shuts her eyes to reality, and calls to the cabana boy.
