The challenge? Write a story in 6 sentences, no more & no less, and if you’d like, share your own creation or just visit and comment on others’ ideas, with GirlieOnTheEdge, Denise. The prompt is “PETRICHOR”, and here’s where you join the party:  Six Sentence Stories

The soft pad of toughened feet on damp forest floor is the rhythm that drives the night onward.

Animals hush at her sensed presence then resume their own individual calls and clicks, but only after the shrubbery ceases to dance at her swift passage; scents of the otherworld momentarily mask the steady, calming perfume of petrichor.

For all her liminality, she is of recognizable kind and kindred, even when transitioning, her sinewy body moon-dappled as she makes her way to the ridge top.

The drone buzzes, another larger engine shrieks as wings shear treetops and crash, another kind of mask that covers the child’s wet, dying cry.

She cannot control her impulse, her powerful hunger denied for far too long; excepting the slow, hissing burn of airplane wreckage, there is silence as she feasts on sweet, pure blood and tender flesh, and the child finds final peace in consumption.

She raises her snout, a single tear drawing a clean line through her pelt, and pads off into the safety of the lower forest and the Great Lake.

  1. Περίγειος συζυγία or Supermoons coming up… what better time for a wolf story to roam free (of constraints …)
And if your WIP, Liz, incorporates a lone wolf also…then…! 🌕
