A Frosty Farewell

The fog and sleet haven’t let up since we departed Per’s Point. This far north, the sun is never more than a few inches off the horizon, for a few hours at a time. Had we chosen Midsummer, we’d have had near 24-hour sun.

But transport would’ve been problematic.

One mid-sized Dwarf Diamond would’ve set us up for life. Greedy, we stole a bagful while the dwarves hibernated, and thought to escape by sea.

Lilianne’s fallen asleep as I write this letter, here on our ice floe. I’ll join her soon.

The diamonds weren’t cursed, but we surely are.

  1. You just cant mess with dwarves no matter what anyone else might say. Here’s hoping for a nice gust of wind to blow Lilianne and the narrator to safety. Or back into the hands of the dwarves! Nice take on the prompt.

  3. This has the tone of a failed arctic mission like that of Captain Scott, writing the last moments as death and cold close in, and yet you infuse it with magical elements. And what a great idea to have dwarves hibernate!
