The challenge? Write a story in exactly 6 sentences based on Denise’s one word prompt: LIFT. Visit, comment, and write & perhaps post your own on SIX SENTENCE STORIES
The marina is silent at this hour of the morning, sunrise more a wish than anything else, the partiers in the far slips for larger boats having finally gone to sleep.
The cockpit of my old-school Morgan 25 is a little damp with humidity, reminding me that autumn is not far off; I’ll have to borrow the lift to pull her up and put her in storage, and return to my shack in the woods long before snow flies.
It’s a different kind of silence, when drifts get deep, the woodstove hisses, and Jenna Bleu whimpers and kicks with her back legs, dreaming of powder and pulling my midsized sledge, as we make our monthly run to Ryan’s Supply Warehouse. Jenna Bleu loves to visit, warmed by Ryan’s strong hands as he runs them through her thick fur, and wrestles her to the ground.
Except for that wink of that keen blue eye, you’d almost think he was a pup himself.
For now, I wrap my loden wool blanket under my chilly bare feet and lift my cup of coffee to my face, satisfied in the dark-borne steam rising above its lip.

The best of both worlds, Liz – sailboat and cabin in the woods. Perfect.
Lest we forget the most important component…Jenna Bleu!

A shack in the woods can be very silent in winter. And peaceful if one doesn’t get too much cabin fever.

A week of short, little, engaging stories in Sixville, no?
*not a ‘real’ word but used by some to describe writing that tempts the Reader to remember times and recall seasons.

Well, isn’t this cozy. Sure, a little chilly damp, with that slightly mildew smell that’s always there below decks, but cozy nonetheless.
Methinks this scene is from a longer story?

Yes, smells like home somewhere, like sanctuary. Actually, just a quick write snatched out of a dark corner. But maybe it could be?! Thanks, Deanna!
