“I don’t suppose there’s any good reason to go back up the hill and look for that stained glass window, is there?” Jill – for that’s what we’ll call her for lack of anything better – said as she stood and brushed clover and long grass from the skirt of her dirndl.
“I really don’t know,” answered Jack – named for the same lack – as he jumped to his feet and batted dirt and grass from his heavy blond hair. “I’ve never gotten a girl to go this far with me, before, and certainly never through a magic portal”
“No kidding.” Jill rolled her eyes, head down, and then pasted a smile on as she lifted her head and looked him in the eye, thinking “Well, this was clearly a mistake, to go anywhere with someone who looks so geeky in lederhosen.”
