The challenge? Write a story in 6 sentences, no more & no less, and if you’d like, share your creation or just visit and comment on others’ ideas, with GirlieOnTheEdge, Denise. The prompt is “METER”, and here’s where you join the party: Six Sentence Stories
“Maybe you oughtta check the meter, instead o’ just eyeballin’ tha thing?”
The answer to that was a raised eyebrow and a sharp chin notched upward…a bit of the hairy eyeball.
“I mean, the Grandmaster Grimoire says you have ta get the right combo, tha right timing, in tha right amount, or there’s gonna be major troubles, for sure.”
The answer to THAT was an exasperated puff at the mangled name – it was more accurately called ‘The Great Great Greats Gramma’s Grimoire’, after all – followed by palms cupped and fingers slightly curled around a pale blue swirl of glittering crystals joining and flattening to flakes, and a low hum that began deep in the chest.
Kevin was right in pointing out that timing was critical, and if she hadn’t been casting this spell for so many eons, and he hadn’t been under her tutelage for so many decades, she might’ve hesitated; there was a lot at stake here, right-timing was paramount to purest instinct, and he needed to learn to trust her instinct if he were to ever learn to trust his own.
She began to divide the humming up into rhythmic grunts, and with an explosion of breath, scattered the wind runes that began the winter season in earnest.
