Alison leaned on her hand, searching for the next line, so deep in thought that she didn’t note the light tap and dip of her quill pen against her temple.
She muttered a series of words, stumbling over the correct number of syllables, and the necessary rise and fall in tone to draw the correct energies together.
The ink drew down the side of her face, slithered into the neck of her gown, disappearing below the collar; who would have guessed that the meager ink could travel so far and so indelibly into the shell of her fair skin?
Dipping the pen again, she wrote the remembered words of transformation, and leaned back, satisfied.
She lifted the parchment to the candle flame to burn it and complete the spell.
A mere apprentice scribe, she didn’t detect the heat and burn on her own skin until it was too late.

The challenge? Write a story in 6 sentences, no more & no less, and if you’d like, share your creation or just visit and comment on others’ ideas, with GirlieOnTheEdge, Denise. The prompt is “SCRIBE”, and here’s where you join the party: Six Sentence Stories
Beautifully descriptive language, Liz.
And a most creative use of the prompt.

I just knew it was going to go bad! I could identify though with that counting; we count words and sentences and syllables, attempts at transformative magic… are we skilled enough? Do we know the power of the ink? Do we have the mastery to know when it’s too soon to hit send?
Great Six!

and that is why we squash any ambition to write words what rhyme together and such… too big a chance to go awry, despite how hard you think you try

Tricky things, spells, especially for the inexperienced. Your description of spell-craft reminds me of how I constantly count on my fingers when attempting syllabic poetry! Good Six, Liz🧙♀️

The spell backfired. I like how the wording of the spell required correct syllable count and meter.

Sloppy work due to inexperience. Will there be another to unwork the unexpected?!

Best to verify one’s spells especially if a novice, huh?!
Rack up another “great Six”, Liz. Very enjoyable!
