They’d gotten a good ten inches of snow, on top of a well-seasoned base from earlier, lighter, snowfall. Heavy enough to soften the trail that ran by the still-open creek and led the woods, she figured she’d get the best skiing at sunrise, as cold as it was.
Others had had same idea; a twin set of ski tracks caught and sparked in the rosy sunrise. Clicking boot into binding, she pulled her scarf up against the windy slap across open marshland that spanned parking lot to woods.
If she took her time, let her joints and muscles warm with the smooth movement of crisp glide, she’d still get her privacy and morning meditation; the hard push and the joyful kick could come later, when the others had finished their jaunt and left for coffee.
Grateful for the straight twin guides of those who’d broken trail before her, she focused on the hiss and snowy spray of ski tips through fresh snowfall.
The challenge? Write a story in 6 sentences, no more & no less, and if you’d like, share your creation or just visit and comment on others’ ideas, with GirlieOnTheEdge, Denise. The prompt is “GUIDE”, and here’s where you join the party: Six Sentence Stories
Beautiful language, Liz. I can hear the sound of the skis and feel the cold. What bliss it must be to be out alone on skis in the snow. My own attempts at skiing were more slapstick comedy, but one can dream! 😉

Practice makes perfect, and I’ve been skiing almost as long as I’ve been walking. This is fiction, tho’. You’d never catch me up before dawn and on the trails…😆😆

I’m kinda relieved to hear that, Liz! 😉
You’re so lucky to have that experience of skiing. It must be a wonderful feeling to speed along…

When the snow is right, and the muscles warmed, it’s a little bit of magic.
But I’m sure there are other experiences that compare…

Engaging in activities at sunrise, especially outdoors, can feel almost magical. Skiing at sunrise, I’m not sure I’d feel anything but cold, lol.

Nice one, Liz, but I’ll take your word for it on the joys of skiiing. 🙂

Talk about “following in someone’s footsteps”…..or in this case, someone’s ski tracks!

Sounds like a nice way to spend a morning, exercise notwithstanding.

Never a skier either, but that sounds rather nice – apart from the cold, the damp and the possibility of a hard landing! Enjoy your winter, Liz 🙂

I have never skied but I can imagine how those ski tracks would serve as a guide marking the trail that the snow has covered.
