Giant Problem Solved

Kittelson mountain and sea

(I have no idea where this Flash came from, but…uh…OK)

Hugo’s belly pangs rumbled down the dark mountains above Heffinger Hollow, and he was tempted to nibble on a half-cooked morsel of the spunky spelunkers that frequented the Carbuncle Caverns. The spelunkers, per usual, had zigged when they should have zagged, and fallen deep into the bowels of the caverns; deadly for them, but an easy reach for Hugo.

For their part, the villagers of the Hollow looked up at the thunder-free skies, again grateful that Hugo was fairly reasonable (for a giant), as well as a great strategist for the tourism plan that kept him fed, and the close-knit community of Heffinger safe from the seasonal historical sacrifice; after all, they all needed to get on with things and change with the times.

UPS delivery was dodgy at best in their remote location in Heffinger Hollow, and Hugo had been late in getting out in his order for HealthyMealz Krunchy Snackz; he owned up to his mistake, however, and swore to the Gods and Goddesses to do better next time. For that reason, and to demonstrate his sincerity and commitment, he made himself wait as he rotated the now-spitted spelunkers over his camp fire with one hand, and sprinkled Hot Seasons Cheddar Sprinkles with the other.

He figured he could afford extra sprinkles of cheese seasoning since he hadn’t had a snack that day, and as the athletic spelunkers tended toward being lean and a little dry.

  1. So at first I was thinking Hurricane Hugo was being personified, but then entered the giant in your SSS! A little like Grimm and a lot grim, but you got our attention and admiration for your writing style. The third sentence made me grin.

  2. Fun Six

(For the record: I know the word ‘spelunking’ is real and found in most credible dictionaries, but I can’t shake the feeling that someone is putting us on. Spelunking!?!?)
