The challenge? Write a story in 6 sentences, no more & no less, and if you’d like, share your creation or just visit and comment on others’ ideas, with GirlieOnTheEdge, Denise. The prompt is “Distance”, and here’s where you join the party: Six Sentence Stories
The family was back together for another holiday celebration, and things had been going pretty much the way she had expected.
This one was shiny and brassy with booze and loud opinions.
That one was tense and weepy, slashing out with passive aggressive comments, attempting to suppress the bibulous one.
The other two fussed over their latest baby, adding little except mutually raised eyebrows at all the contention, their mouths gaping in corrective yells at the horde of kids that bounced and tumbled past the screen.
Zoom was great; she zipped her lip and muted their microphones.
This was a new family tradition she could grow to love.

Zoom has given us a way to spend Christmas with mama. It sure can be lively, requiring that mute button. Nice six.

Some find real comfort with the familiar…others want options to slide some boundaries into place… 😉

I’m not a fan of Zoom, as I rarely can get it to work correctly. But having read your story, I have to say that I now have a huge appreciation of it’s merits! Ha! Great story…that last line made me laugh!

I imagine a Zoom meeting with adults and children of many different ages could be full of a lot of distractions and unplanned sounds and comments. Love how you envisioned the possibilities in your SSS Zoom meeting.

and….and! As many of us have learned, the others don’t see the solitaire game that you opened on your desk top, to help pass the time (only when absolutely necessary, of course)
Fun Six

Good one, Liz. The dreaded family get-together but via screen and on mute. Perfect. To be fair most of ours back then were well behaved and fun affairs, with only a few instances of physical fighting.

The freedom of fiction lets one imagine. Fisticuffs would never go over in my family of origin. Ha-ha!

I like the ability to mute myself on a zoom call.

I use that often, as well as the “Mute video” function.
